The story
It all started on two beaches.
Sinis, Sardinia. After a storm the shore is covered in Posidonia leaves. I ask why nobody removes them. "They're good for the sea," I'm told.
A few months later, walking along the seafront of the Ferrara coast, I find a completely different sea: barely alive, almost suffocated by mucilage and unnatural debris.
I wanted to do something for that sea, and for every place that suffers from human impact. That's how Oceanima was born.
Where nature is healthy, the sea protects itself. Where we have harmed it, it needs help.
The area of Posidonia oceanica meadows in the Mediterranean has shrunk by about a third over the last 50 years.
